Embarkation 09-09-2016

Today marks our final day in Paris.  We have had a great time on this trip.  Larry and pat visited Versailles.  We had a walking history tour of Paris by an excellent guide.  We visited the Arc de Triomphe, Tower Eiffel, Musee de Louvre (the world's 2nd most visited museum, after the Palace Museum in China), were entertained at a French Cabaret, dined on excellent french cuisine.  Rode the bus, rode the subway and walked a lot.  Time to move on to the next phase.  We will catch a shuttle to the docks about 1:00 but first we will take a walk through the Jardin du Luxembourg (Luxembourg Gardens) and visit the Paris Pantheon, followed by another lunch at and outside cafe.
The Gardens were created in 1612 for Marie De Medici, the widow of King Henry IV. She built a new residence, name the Luxembourg Palace and the gardens were part of the original plans. (see picture).  They are very nice.  The Pantheon came along later. Construction began in 1750 and completed in 1790.  It startedoff as a church and was repurposed as a mausoleum. Twice has reverted to a church and changed back.  Today it is an extremely large crypt, housing such notables as Marie Curie and her husband, Voltaire, Victor Hugo, Alexandre Dumas and other "National Heroes".  A number of these heroes were later disenterred and their remains were moved elsewhere.  Fame is fleeting.  We will now head for the ship and join our compadres. The following photographs will introduce you to our travelling party.  All aboard.
